Bus Driver

The main purpose of this role is the safe transportation of passengers. You will be required to operate the company’s services in a safe, professional and customer orientated manner whilst observing Road Traffic Laws and VOSA guidelines.

Who are we looking for?

  • Minimum of 18 years of age (DVLA Regulations)
  • Passed fit for a PCV medical
  • No more than six points/endorsements on driving licence
  • No drink driving convictions in the last ten years
  • Full training will be given for successful non-PCV drivers.

Skills required:

You will be flexible and willing to cover shifts at short notice as and when required. You will also have the ability to work on your own initiative and to a high standard.

Depot Management

Each depot is run by a management team, many of whom started their careers as drivers and have been promoted from within the business.

Who are we looking for?

We employ managers who run both our operating and our engineering functions, including management of the performance of the bus services. We also have employees who deal with administration and support the bus depots in the main function of operating buses.

General Manager

Responsibilities

As a General Manager, you’ll devise and deliver local plans / strategies to ensure that an optimum service is delivered. You’ll work with local networks and communities to ensure that Arriva is seen as the Mobility Partner of Choice.

You’ll demonstrate effective leadership of teams and will create the right environment for effective delivery of a safe and compliant service, whilst seeking continual improvement and enhanced profitability.

Qualifications

You’ll have had experience of full day to day management of an operational facility and had experience of leading, managing and motivating teams of 50+ team members. Accountable for customer satisfaction results and dispute resolutions, you’ll also have experience of working in partnership with Trade Union representatives You’ll take responsibility for driving revenue, controlling costs and maximising EBIT%/Profit & have full P&L Ownership.

Operations Manager

Responsibilities

As an Operations Manager you’ll support the General Manager and work closely with the Engineering Manager and Assistant Operations Manager to ensure the smooth day to day operations of the depot, maximising resource and efficiencies. You will need to ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements, and also that reliability and punctuality are meeting company targets.

You’ll be responsible for day to day management of depot operations, including the appointment of suitable candidates

into driving positions, absence management, incident investigation and initiatives to help reduce incidents, conducting disciplinary investigations and hearings, and day to day management of site safety. You’ll need to ensure budgetary controls are adhered to and identify ways to improve efficiencies, with specific focus on driver’s hours and the management of costs. You’ll also need to undertake engagement with key stakeholders including attendance at meetings to promote the company and address priority issues

Qualifications

You’ll will have previous experience of working in the bus industry or similar, as well as previous experience of people management in a unionised environment.

A good understanding of health and safety will be advantageous as will well-developed organisational, negotiation, decision making and analytical skills.

Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

Experience within buses is not essential however, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven track record of managing a similar operation, and understanding of the legislation surrounding commercial fleet maintenance with the ability to identify areas for improvement and drive change within the team leading from the front.

Reporting to the depot General Manager the role is also responsible to the Engineering Director so the ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively at all levels, influence and advise on issues analysing data and spend effectively.

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for the maintenance of the entire fleet including cleaning and fueling.

Qualifications

You’ll have demonstrable understanding of commercial fleet maintenance & have an understanding of relevant legislation and compliance Your influencing skills will enable you to drive change through positive action & you’ll have previous experience of managing budgets & the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and are able to utilise all available resource effectively

Assistant Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Engineering Manager you’ll be responsible for all operations of the engineering function, including engineering and support staff, the correct maintenance of the bus fleet to both Company and VOSA standards, adherence and compliance with all Health and Safety requirements.

Qualifications

You’ll have exceptional attention to detail in the allocation of work, excellent people management skills, along with the technical know-how and the ability to effectively work within a budget. Other requirements for the role will be IT literacy along with experience of working with computerised inventory systems. Knowledge of quality management techniques and processes will be an advantage. A full driving licence is required for this post and PCV/LGV licence entitlements are advantageous.

Shift Charge Hand

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will have previous PCV or LGV experience and possess excellent diagnostic skills.

There is an emphasis on team working; excellent communication skills are required with other departments. Electrical skills for diagnostic purposes would be advantageous. This position also involves approximately 15% administration functions & 85% rectification work.

Qualifications

As shift Charge Hand you will be required to:

  • Demonstrate good supervisory and management skills
  • Ensure that company maintenance standards and procedures are followed
  • Effectively utilise all engineering and cleaning staff Ensure compliance with Department of Transport Standards (VOSA)
  • Focus on cost control and ensure parts and materials are only changed when necessary
  • Ensure all relevant paper work is completed

Cleaner/Fueler/Shunter

Responsibilities

As a cleaner, fueller or shunter, you’ll assist with the running of vehicles, which could include fueling, shunting and cleaning the fleet of buses to a high standard, in preparation for the following days use. General depot cleaning and yard duties are an additional requirement of the role.

An ideal candidate will be thorough, conscientious and flexible, ideally with previous cleaning experience. You must be aware of, and work to, all health and safety requirements, including the potential hazards connected with cleaning materials.

Qualifications

Willingness, ability and commitment to maintaining high quality vehicle cleanliness and presentation standards at all times. Self-motivated, Strict adherence to all health & safety matters.

Car licence essential; PCV licence holder preferred, as some vehicle change-overs may be required, although training will be provided for non-PCV licence holders.

Bus Mechanics & Engineers

Engineers are an essential part of our team who ensure that all our vehicles are in safe and roadworthy condition for our customers. People are our priority; being on time every time means that our customers will travel with us time after time.

With more than 4,000 buses outside London to be maintained and kept clean across our various operating companies, our engineering departments are fundamental to the smooth operation of our business.

Who are we looking for?

Our standards are high and we employ apprentices, trainees, and experienced mechanics. We invest heavily in our training and through our mechanic's academy there is the opportunity to achieve an NVQ in Transport Engineering Maintenance.

There is also an opportunity for further training and promotion; in fact, the majority of our engineering management team were once bus mechanics themselves.
