The main purpose of this role is the safe transportation of passengers. You will be required to operate the company’s services in a safe, professional and customer orientated manner whilst observing Road Traffic Laws and VOSA guidelines.
You will be flexible and willing to cover shifts at short notice as and when required. You will also have the ability to work on your own initiative and to a high standard.
Each depot is run by a management team, many of whom started their careers as drivers and have been promoted from within the business.
We employ managers who run both our operating and our engineering functions, including management of the performance of the bus services. We also have employees who deal with administration and support the bus depots in the main function of operating buses.

As a General Manager, you’ll devise and deliver local plans / strategies to ensure that an optimum service is delivered. You’ll work with local networks and communities to ensure that Arriva is seen as the Mobility Partner of Choice.
You’ll demonstrate effective leadership of teams and will create the right environment for effective delivery of a safe and compliant service, whilst seeking continual improvement and enhanced profitability.
You’ll have had experience of full day to day management of an operational facility and had experience of leading, managing and motivating teams of 50+ team members. Accountable for customer satisfaction results and dispute resolutions, you’ll also have experience of working in partnership with Trade Union representatives You’ll take responsibility for driving revenue, controlling costs and maximising EBIT%/Profit & have full P&L Ownership.

You’ll be responsible for day to day management of depot operations, including the appointment of suitable candidates

You’ll need to ensure budgetary controls are adhered to and identify ways to improve efficiencies, with specific focus on driver’s hours and the management of costs. You’ll will have previous experience of working in the bus industry or similar, as well as previous experience of people management in a unionised environment.
A good understanding of health and safety will be advantageous as will well-developed organisational, negotiation, decision making and analytical skills.
